(Ping! Zine Web Tech Magazine) – September is shaping up to be another big month for the tech industry. Apple is expected to be announcing its next phase of the iPhone and most recently Samsung’s rumor mill has been churning with talk of a Samsung smart watch to be unveiled on September 4th. Tech expert Karl Volkman shares his insights on the watch, called the Samsung Galaxy Gear.
“While some watches with Bluetooth capabilities have been on the market for a while, Samsung’s is the first smart watch from a major brand to take technology a step farther with email, phone, web browsing and potentially games,” says Volkman. “The smart watch market is very underdeveloped and has the potential to be a huge hit for consumers.”
There are a couple of points that are still unclear as to capabilities of the Galaxy Gear, including the extent of phone use and screen flexibility. “There was talk of Samsung’s watch being a true phone, but it’s more likely that it’ll have Bluetooth capabilities to connect it with a phone. In addition, it will be interesting to see if the screen will be curved, flat or slightly flexible,” continues Volkman. “We can’t be sure about the exact details until the official announcement, but we can assume Samsung will be providing US consumers with a product that’s more than just an accessory.”
