Sites hit reportedly included those with the .il ccTLD (country domain suffix) and the attacks weren’t just limited to government websites.
The incident comes on the heels of intensifying conflict on the Gaza strip.
“Anonymous does not support violence by the IDF or by Palestinian Resistance/Hamas. Our concern is for the children of Israel and Palestinian Territories and the rights of the people in Gaza to maintain open lines of communication with the outside world,” stated Anonymous according to the report.
One of the websites brought down in particular included the government website for Tel Aviv. Anonymous, known for its hacktivist activities largely bases its attacks on political issues it deems corrupt.
