(Ping! Zine Web Tech Magazine) – The new Diablo 3 patch, set to hit on the 12th of this month, is bringing a ton of new changes into the game. Among this sea of tweaks and improvements, two very important changes are coming. First, the item levels of all items will be made visible in the tooltips of items. Second, the drop rates of very high level items are being altered for the better. This patch makes publicly known the drop rates of items with item levels 61, 62, and 63 per location, starting with Act III of the Hell difficulty setting. These higher item levels, or iLevels, can make items exponentially better than their level 60 counterparts and are absolutely essential to progressing through Inferno.
The item drop rates start out relatively small while still in hell. Act III and IV of Hell offer only a 9% chance that an item will drop that has an iLevel of 61 instead of 60, and a paltry 2% chance that an item will be level 62. There is no chance of finding a level 63 item while playing in the Hell setting. Once players move into Inferno these statistics greatly improve. In act I of Inferno the chances of finding iLevel 61 items double to 18%, iLevel 62 item finding chances are quadrupled to 8%, and items with a level of 63 will start appearing 2% of the time. In acts III and IV of Inferno the chances of finding level 61, 62, and 63 items are 24%, 16%, and 8% respectively. It is important to note that these percentages are all estimated averages, because different item types will have slightly different chances of having higher iLevels.
Players armed with this knowledge can make informed decisions on how they would like to hunt for gear. Players can determine if it would be better for them to chain pull champion mobs in easier acts or battle their way through Act III or IV. With these statistics being known, players can determine which method is more efficient for them based on their current capabilities.
