(Ping! Zine Web Tech Magazine) – For over two years, mobile giants Apple and Samsung have been in a legal battle against patent infringement rights.
Yesterday, Apple was awarded $290 million more in damages in the retrial against Samsung for copying the “pinch-to-zoom” feature in their products, states a report from ABCNews.
During the week-long trial, Apple had insisted that Samsung pay them $380 million, but Samsung countered that offer by saying they should only owe $52 million.
The report continues by stating that Samsung plans on appealing both verdicts.
“For Apple, this case has always been about more than patents and money. While it’s impossible to put a price tag on those values, we are grateful to the jury for showing Samsung that copying has a cost,” stated Apple spokeswoman Kristin Huguet.
In March, the two companies will face off in a third trial regarding the previous claims that Samsung’s newest devices also copied Apple’s technology.
