(Ping! Zine Web Hosting Magazine) – Has the iPad’s day of reckoning finally arrived? Perhaps Amazon is about to gain traction in the tablet market by releasing the Kindle Fire, a product that will likely compete directly with Apple’s popular tablet.
The unveiling of the device took place today. Meanwhile, Amazon’s previous Kindles have pertained strictly to e-reading. However, the new device allows for a lot more things including games, web browsing, movies, music, and more.
Details include that it’s Android-based, has a 14.6 ounce design, along with a new web browser (called Amazon Silk).
The tablet is available for $199.00. What’s significant is that Apple’s iPad 2 goes for $499.00, a whole lot more than Amazon’s new tablet. It will be interesting to see if Apple does any price-adjusting.
Besides just unveiling the Kindle Fire, Amazon also unveiled more Kindle e-readers, one priced for $79.00.
Commenting on the Kindle Fire through Amazon.com, company CEO Jeff Bezos stated that the product “brings everything we’ve been working on at Amazon for 15 years together into a single, fully-integrated experience for customers.” For more information on the Kindle Fire, visit: http://www.amazon.com
