(Ping! Zine Web Hosting Magazine) – The latest version of the popular content management system platform known as Joomla! was launched on Tuesday. Version 2.5 features some key changes, most notably the CMS’s compatibility with Microsoft’s SQL Server along with support for multi-databases.
In addition to multi-database functionality, additional specifics of the CMS include update notifications and an enhanced search engine.
Joomla Production Leadership Team member Mark Dexter said that the new features were added in part due to user input received through the website ideas.joomla.org.
Meanwhile, Open Source Matters President Ryan Ozimek noted that adding multi-base support on the CMS was a “huge step forward.” Ozimek said, “It ensures companies and organization, both large and small, will save even more money and time by adopting Joomla.” Ozimek’s company, Open Source Matters is a nonprofit supporting Joomla.
Joomla! is PHP-based and has proven highly popular since its introduction, allowing web users to create online applications and website content.
The latest release follows a July 2011 launch of a previous version. For more information regarding the latest launch of the CMS, view a press release here (joomla.org)/
