Libyan Chaos Reaches Country’s Top TLD Registrar

(Ping! Zine Web Hosting Magazine) – It now appears that chaos in Libya has spread even further, infiltrating the country’s top domain registrar for “.ly” sites. According internet security firm Sophos, hackers known as “Electr0n” defaced the site upon breaching it.

Despite the news, Sophos reported that sites using the .ly TLD are still functional.

With the hack, Nic.ly displayed an image and text pertaining to the current crisis that faces the country. Since earlier this year, Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi has faced a rebellion in the country. Meanwhile, other nations including the United States have supported opposition to Gaddafi’s regime.
