(Ping! Zine Web Tech Magazine) – This Christmas morning might not be as joyous for Xbox players wanting to play their new games, as hacking group Lizard Squad has promised to bring down Xbox’s online service, Xbox Live.
Earlier this week the group launched another DDoS attack on Xbox Live, claiming that it was in “preparation for Christmas.”
“Microsoft will receive a wonderful Christmas present from us,” wrote the group via Twitter after they launched the attack. They continued by stating, “that’s a small dose of what’s to come on Christmas. #LizardSquad”
Users who tried to log onto their account were met with an error code reading “80151909,” though this only lasted a few hours, reports CinemaBlend.
Lizard Squad has been known to cause havoc on the gaming community, with its multiple attacks on networks and games over the past couple of months. In August the group brought down PS Now, Xbox Live, Battle.net, and League of Legends by using DDoS attacks.
Shortly after they launched an attack against Sony’s President John Smedley, in which they tweeted a message to American Air stating that there were possible explosives on the plane he was on, prompting an emergency landing.
The group continues to disturb the gaming community, so if your unable to access Xbox Live come Christmas morning then you know why.
