Microsoft Backs Off of “Metro’ Description

(Ping! Zine Web Tech Magazine) – Hold off on the ‘metro’ talk. That’s the message Windows maker Microsoft recently got following legal controversy over a key term the company’s used to describe the interface of its upcoming OS.

According to a report from The Verge, the name will cease to be used and the Windows team is currently in the process of coining a new name likeness to describe the sleek style that also appears on Windows phones.

An internal memo cited in the report referred to “an important European partner” of Microsoft’s as a reason for the change. Meanwhile, A BBC news story suggested the conflict could involve German retailer Metro AG. So what should you call the style in the meantime? According to the BBC, for now, Microsoft is asking developers to instead say “Windows 8 style UI.”
