(Ping! Zine Web Tech Magazine) – Tech giant Microsoft has clearly lacked in the mobile industry – ceding way to the success of offerings by competitors Google and Apple.
Now the company’s founder is admitting it messed up. According to a report from Business Insider, Bill Gates described Microsoft’s “early mobile strategy” as “clearly a mistake.”
Gates was speaking in an interview with CBS. “There’s a lot of things like cellphones where we didn’t get out in the lead early. We didn’t miss cellphones, but the way that we went about it didn’t allow us to get the leadership,” Gates noted, according to the report.
Gates also reflected on current Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer – noting that both him and Ballmer were not yet satisfied with Microsoft’s current offerings despite citing success with Bing and other company products.
The tech rock star retired full time from Microsoft in 2006, taking on a new role with his foundation. Microsoft, meanwhile, rolled out Windows Phone 8 last October.
