(Ping! Zine Web Tech Magazine) – How about $499 for a tablet computer? It’s no ordinary system. In fact, that’s the price Microsoft has set its new Surface tablet to go for, according to a recent Wall Street Journal report.
The tablet, originally announced by the Windows-developer in June, operates on a version of Windows 8. Microsoft, however, will offer an even more expensive version for $599.
“Conceived, designed and engineered entirely by Microsoft employees, and building on the company’s 30-year history manufacturing hardware, Surface is designed to seamlessly transition between consumption and creation, without compromise,” stated the company when initially describing the release at the time.
The Wall Street Journal noted the lower price tag is identical to that of Apple’s latest iPad. A key benefit though? Microsoft’s version features memory that’s two times as powerful.
Surface notably features a kickstand and allows for a keyboard. Microsoft was expected to begin preorders today.
