(Ping! Zine Web Tech Magazine) – Is tech giant Microsoft ready to wage war with Pinterest? That could be the case after the Windows developer recently rolled out a public beta version of Socl, a network which allows users to post collages of interests.
“Socl — pronounced social — allows you to express and share your ideas through rich post collages comprised of images, links, captions and videos,” explains Microsoft via the FAQ section of so.cl.
According to a BBC report, the platform relies on integration with Bing, Microsoft’s search engine. Meanwhile, users can either use their Facebook or Microsoft accounts to sign into the service.
Pinterest has steadily experienced a rise in popularity since its initial launch in March of 2010. In a similar move, Pinterest previously ditched its invite-only policy in August.
