Minecraft 1.6 to be Built with Java 6

(Ping! Zine Web Tech Magazine) – Horses, hay bales and leashes, oh my! Minecraft version 1.6 will add a number of visual changes to the popular title – first detailed in snapshot 13w16a unveiled by developer Mojang on Thursday.

“It’s time for us to release the first snapshot from the development of 1.6. This version of Minecraft comes with huge changes to the base technology of the game. For instance, starting from Minecraft 1.6, we will build the game for Java 6 instead of Java 5. We are also aiming to raise the required OpenGL version to 2.0 (from 1.2 / 1.3, that Minecraft 1.5 and prior versions are using),” stated the company via its blog.

In addition to the above, the version introduces a new launcher.

Minecraft 1.5 was just launched last month. The game title has become increasingly popular within the past year, following its expansion to the Xbox 360 and mobile devices.
