(Ping! Zine Web Tech Magazine) – For the first time, Nintendo is offering its users the chance to cross-buy for their handheld device to its home console, a service that others have been offering for some time now.
According to Polygon, 3DS users who purchase the RPG game Squids Odyssey will get the Wii U version for free, though this offer is only available in the European eShop.
“We are very excited by this promotion as it’s the first time this happens – as far as I know. It’s a proof that Nintendo is making efforts in giving more control to the developer on its pricing and promotions,” said The Game Bakers Emeric Thoa to GoNintendo. “I’m glad that our players will be able to play on 3DS and WiiU for the price of one game. It’s a shame that it’s only in Europe yet but hopefully this cross buy operation will be appreciated and the technical contraints that prevented it to happen in the US will be fixed.”
The developer also noted that Nintendo of America has not yet been able to offer cross-buy because they “could not support this operation yet.”
