Nintendo Responds To Fans' Petition To Have A Character In The Legend of Zelda Named After Robin Williams (Ping! Zine Web Tech Magazine) – Last week fans created a petition to have legendary actor Robin Williams memorialized in the upcoming Legend of Zelda game, following the tragic news of his passing.

The online petition, posted on Change.org, has accumulated more than 100,000 signatures from fans wanting Williams to be remembered in the series that he grew to love.

“Robin was an avid player of video games, with a love for all things Nintendo, and a particular love of all things Legend of Zelda. It is well-known that he named his daughter after the series’ titular princess,” reads the petition. “He won’t get to play it, but he’ll live on forever in a universe he always loved.”

In a statement released to Polygon, Nintendo stated the following:

“We appreciate the outpouring of support from the gaming community, and hear the request of fans to honor him in a future game. We will not be discussing what might be possible for future games during this difficult time, but we will hold our memories of Robin close.”

A similar petition was created last week by World of Warcraft fans, asking Blizzard to create a nonplayable character as a tribute to Robin.

WoW’s official Twitter account responded with the following statement: [email protected] Thank you. You gave us so much joy in our lives, and we hope you enjoyed your time in our world. We’ll see you in-game.”
