(Ping! Zine Web Tech Magazine) – Last week at the Society for Information Display in San Diego, Nokia revealed its new foldable display technology.
The Finnish company showed off two different models of its 5.9-inch high resolution OLED panels, one that folds two times like a book and another that can be folded three times.
Both panels can display 1,280 x 720 pixels when folded due to a technique that “sandwiches the color filter, TFT, and OLED layer between a sealer and a flexible substrate,” says AppleInsider.
Each panel has a 2mm radius that can withstand a 4mm curvature, and can be bent more than 100,000 times.
It is unclear how and when this technology will be used, though companies such as Samsung and LG have already started using curved display in their products.
