(Ping! Zine Web Tech Magazine) – Apple and the FBI are investigating the recent iCloud hack that leaked nude photos of dozens of A-list celebrities on public message boards over the weekend.
According to The Verge, the hackers reportedly used the iBrute tool to access the images from various iCloud accounts. iBrute works by continuously trying different combinations of passwords on the Find My iPhone service.
The FBI released the following statement concerning the massive data breach:
“The FBI is aware of the allegations concerning computer intrusions and the unlawful release of material involving high profile individuals, and is addressing the matter. … Any further comment would be inappropriate at this time.”
Jennifer Lawrence, Kate Upton, Rihanna, Lea Michele, and Mary E. Winstead were among the many celebrities whose nude photos were posted on Reddit and message board 4chan.
Apple spokeswoman Nat Kerris released a statement on Monday, stating that they “take user privacy very seriously and are actively investigating this report.”
