(Ping! Zine Web Tech Magazine) – Social site Facebook made a milestone Thursday, signaling that it had reached one billion active users.
Company founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg marked the occurrence with a posted letter via the company’s newsroom, calling the occasion “very special.”
“We believe that the need to open up and connect is what makes us human. It’s what brings us together. It’s what brings meaning to our lives,” commented Zuckerberg.
Facebook also posted a minute and a half video showing powerful imagery of chairs, airplanes, bridges and more to emphasize global interconnectedness.
The move caps off a year in which the company rolled out its highly anticipated IPO. The top social network previously passed the 500 million mark in July of 2010.
