(Ping! Zine Web Tech Magazine) – Microsoft’s Windows Phone 8.1 is just a week away and with it comes the debut of Microsoft’s mobile voice assistant, Cortana.
Cortana, powered by the Bing search technology, allows users to search, make commands, set reminders, and much more by simply telling her what you want, much like Apple’s Siri and Google Now.
“Cortana gets to know you and gets better over time by asking questions based on your behavior and checking in with you before she assumes you’re interested in something,” describes the tech giant via press release. “She detects and monitors the stuff you care about, looks out for you throughout the day, and helps filter out the noise so you can focus on what matters to you.”
The virtual assistant is integrated with Skype and other Microsoft apps, and will be available to third-party developers so they can incorporate their apps with her as well.
Other new features added in the update include SMS search, an action center, personalized Live Tiles, updated calendar, the integration of Skype to the phone dialer, and a word flow keyboard that learns your writing style.
Windows Phone 8.1 will be available to all users on June 24th.
