(Ping! Zine Web Hosting Magazine) – Amazon.com owned online shoe retailer Zappos recently faced a major cyber-attack that possibly exposed user data belonging to millions of customers.
Such customer information may have included names, the last four digits of credit cards, shipping and email addresses, phone numbers, and more.
Discussing the matter in a recent email to more than 24 million of its customers, the site stated, “We were recently the victim of a cyber attack by a criminal who gained access to parts of our internal network and systems through one of our servers in Kentucky. We are cooperating with law enforcement to undergo an exhaustive investigation.”
Despite the attack, the company has ensured customers that further payment information such as entire credit card details were not accessed during the breach.
Meanwhile, the company is taking further security precautions in the aftermath of the attack. Zappos has reset user passwords and has asked its customers to create new ones.
Within the past year, a large amount of security attacks have made news headlines, including April 2011’s high profile breach of the Sony PlayStation Network. For more information on the matter, visit: http://blogs.zappos.com/securityemail
