(Ping! Zine Web Tech Magazine) – Opera Software ASA has released a new version for its data compression app, Opera Mini, adding new features and a redesigned UI, the first major overhaul in over two years.
Version 8.0 of the app adds single column view, fixes issues with the virtual joystick, and adds a new compression mode, themes, and QR code reader, along with stability and performance improvements.
Opera Mini was first released for Apple in 2010, allowing users to browse the Internet on their smartphones and iPads without having to worry about using all of their data.
The main feature of the app is that is compresses data by up to 90% and speeds up data transfers and browsing.
“Opera Mini crunches down the size of the websites you visit. It compresses images and text, making the websites lighter. So, stop caring about roaming fees,” reads the description of the app on the App Store. “Quit being frustrated with slow-loading pages. We want to be sure that you connect to the web instant and access sites super-fast without paying any extra coin.”
Opera Mini 8.0 is currently available for free for Android and iOS devices.
