PandaLabs Hit by Breach as Authorities Round Up Hackers

(Ping! Zine Web Hosting Magazine) – Amid a variety of recent arrests, hacking group Anonymous retaliated on Wednesday by breaching the website of security firm PandaLabs, according to a report from the Washington Post.

The homepage was obviously defaced with a message from the hackers reading, “Antisec is back once again knocking snitches doors cause traison is something we don’t forgive.” The group was apparently referring to notorious hacker Hector Xavier Monsegur, also known in the online world as “Sabu.” According to a number of reports, Monsegur had aided the FBI in a number of operations aimed at dismantling hacktivist operations after being charged with hacking crimes himself in August.

Monsegur faces over 124 years from the charges but his cooperation with the FBI could afford him some leniency. Meanwhile, the message also directly referred to Monsegur’s purported reason for helping authorities. “Sabu snitched on us. As usually happens FBI menaced him to take his sons away. We understand, but we were your family too (Remember what you liked to say?),” the message stated.

Those responsible for taking down the site also accused PandaLabs of assisting the authorities.

The recent breach hit around the same time that the FBI detailed hacking charges against five people including Monsegur in a press release on Tuesday. Monsegur himself was noted for high profile breaches by hacking group Lulzsec on targets such as Sony, Fox and PBS.

The hacktivists participate in a movement commonly referred to as “antisec.” Political motives often include what the groups argue is a fight against corruption.  Another portion of the statement listed on the defaced site said, “Love to those who fighted for freedom of speech, for a real democracy, for a govt free of corruption, for a free world where we are able to share our knowledge freely.” Last month, authorities arrested 25 suspected hackers involved in Anonymous and Lulzsec. The groups have been responsible for a number of high profile breaches in recent years.
