(Ping! Zine Web Hosting Magazine) – HostingCon 2011 held its third and final day in San Diego, California yesterday. One of the interesting early morning presentations included a debate on cloud deployment, presented by VMWare’s Matthew Lodge, Equinix’s Brian Lillie, and Virtacore’s Douglas Pollei. The three discussed what’s necessary for a successful cloud launch.
At the same time, Parallel’s VP of Service Provider Marketing and Alliances John Zannie discussed opportunity in the industry in a presentation titled “Technology and Margins: Using Customer Demand to Drive Product Directions to Grow Profitability Today.”
The third day’s keynote included a presentation from Birger Steen, CEO of Parallels. The keynote was titled “Road Ahead: More Customers, More Services, More Opportunity – and More Competion.” Company executive chairman Serguei Beloussov also participated in the address. During the presentation, Steen discussed opportunity in the SMB market, noting that there’s still allot of potential to expand in that area. Steen also talked about competition in the industry along with the advantages that cloud offers providers.
There was also a Q&A with hosting leaders who included the likes of Hostway, DreamHost, GearHost, and the Web Hosting Industry Review. The session provided a great opportunity for attendees to shape the discussion. Meanwhile, other presentations were given by Michael Lin of Symantec, who discussed security dangers that effect the industry and Microsoft’s Michael Joffe, who discussed data center private cloud computing.
While HostingCon 2011 has ended, the discussion concerning the industry’s future continues. As you’ve probably heard, next year’s HostingCon will be held July 16th through the 18th in Boston, Massachusetts. It’s never too soon to start planning!
