(Ping! Zine Web Tech Magazine) – Tech giant Google invested in photography, on Monday announcing that it had acquired Nik Software, the company behind popular photo editing application Snapseed.
Snapseed is desktop as well as iOS-based and Nick Software lists is availability for Android as “coming soon.”
“Today I’m excited to welcome +Nik Software to the Google family! We want to help our users create photos they absolutely love, and in our experience Nik does this better than anyone,” commented Google Senior VP of Engineering Vic Gundotra via his Google+ page.
Some have likened Snaspeed’s capabilities to that of another photo editing application, Instagram. However, Snapseed appears to feature relatively more options.
“We’ve always aspired to share our passion for photography with everyone, and with Google’s support we hope to be able to help many millions more people create awesome pictures,” commented Nick software regarding the acquisition. Aside from its popular photo editing application, the company provides a number of photography-related plugins and training.
