Ten years ago the publisher of Ping! Zine, Keith Duncan, was in Chicago, Illinois manning a booth as an exhibitor at the very first HostingCon trade show event. The event was new and drew just a few hundred attendees – almost all of which stopped by the Ping! Zine booth for a copy of the magazine or a free tee shirt. Since that auspicious beginning, Ping! Zine has returned to HostingCon every year to exhibit, create exciting giveaways and to cover the event editorially for our loyal readers in the hosting industry.
HostingCon 2014 marks the tenth anniversary of this industry tradeshow and is promising to attract a considerably larger and even more influential group of hosting luminaries than in years past. First the particulars – HostingCon 2014 is being held in Miami, Florida a vibrant coastal city with a vast array of restaurants, bars and entertainment, and of course the beach. The venue chosen is the Miami Beach Convention Center and the dates are June 16th through the 18th, 2014.
According to HostingCon show organizer Kevin Gold with iNet Interactive, this year’s event will be a reprise of all the best elements of previous HostingCon shows – with a few new and exciting elements thrown in. ”HostingCon is the premier industry conference and trade show for hosting and cloud providers. This year’s event is going to be the biggest and best HostingCon ever! We have a number of new features this year including HostingCon Connect2Meet which allows full conference attendees to connect with each other prior to HostingCon and reserve tables for meetings during the conference. Another new feature this year are the Business Connections sessions. The purpose of these new sessions is help facilitate connections/introductions between full conference attendees wanting to explore specific product and service solutions with exhibitors providing those solutions.”
In addition, show organizers iNet Interactive will be throwing a huge tenth anniversary celebration and party entitled: 10th Anniversary Bash and Networking Extravaganza. The company will be providing a complimentary shuttle to transport participants from the convention center to the party venue, The Loews Miami Beach. According to Mr. Gold there will be numerous prizes given away, music provided, scenic beach and costal access, and undoubtedly free drinks to your heart’s content. The party will commence at 5:30 pm on Monday June 16 – directly following the first day’s keynote address by Mr. Chip Bell who will be drawing on material from his best-selling book entitled, The 9 1/2 Principles of Innovative Service.
Throughout the show attendees will have the opportunity to hear educational sessions presented by hosting and cloud experts, and also have ample time to visit one-on-one with the top hosting industry vendors on the exhibit hall floor. Mr. Gold noted that this year’s exhibitor giveaways already include: Apple TV, iPad minis, $500 cash, and a $250 Amazon gift card just to name a few. This doesn’t include the wide variety of ingenious branded merchandise that exhibitors invariably unload on the show floor as well. Additionally, Platinum sponsor SpamExperts has teamed up with industry partners for a second year to co-sponsor a service provider package for HostingCon 2014. SpamExperts has joined with BobCares, CloudLinux, Comodo, eBridge Marketing Solutions, Open-Xchange and Reseller Club, each participating with separate complimentary service offerings to complete an exclusively created give-away package. The prize will consist of a Premium Service Provider Package Valued at $40,000 and a GoPRO Hero 3 Camera.
Co-founder and CEO of SpamExperts, Mr. Sam Renkema, explained the company’s focus at Hosting Con, ”We are happy to announce that SpamExperts has diversified its target market. We are now able to offer tailored solutions for three client groups: (Shared) Webhosts, ISPs/ Telcos and Public Organizations, as well as pay-as-you-go Reseller & Distributor options. Our aggressive pricing allows us to offer a Lowest Price Guarantee compared to other professional email security solutions of the same quality of service as SpamExperts. We will be happy to meet everybody interested at our booth #525 and offer details.” The company is also co-sponsoring an awesome looking invite-only yacht cruise – details are here.
If you are still undecided on whether or not to travel to Miami for this year’s HostingCon event, here are some thoughts from HostingCon veterans who shared their ideas on attending with Ping! Zine.
”Networking is a big reason we go to HostingCon and there are many times we’ve met someone new at HostingCon that resulted in a successful business relationship,” stated Frank Stiff with Cheval Capital – an M&A firm who has delivered numerous sessions at previous shows helping companies to buy competitors or to sell themselves to others. ”The folks that run HostingCon are also very business-centric and do all they can to help. I can recall Troy Augustine, the CEO of iNet Interactive and owner of HostingCon, going out of his way at the DC show to introduce use to a friend of his that wanted to sell their hosting business.”
International visitors also comprise a significant portion of HostingCon attendees with visitors traveling from over 35 countries around the globe for last year’s event. One example is Stuart Melling a co-founder of Manchester, UK based VPS host 34SP.com, ”For me, the networking elements of HostingCon have proved the most beneficial. We’ve returned home to the UK with everything from new staff to new vendors over the years of attending. Also, the panels and key notes are interesting in as much as getting a sense for attitudes and feelings in the business. It’s kinda like sailing a boat in choppy waters, why wouldn’t you look at a compass once in a while?”.
Erik Landsness is a decades long participant in both the hosting industry – first with hosting.com and now with Net Data Centers based in Los Angeles – and also with HostingCon, having attended for many of the past few years. Mr. Landsness added, ”My main reasons for going are to firstly absorb as much information as I possibly can. As a mainly colocation provider that is expanding into the managed services space, Net Data Centers will benefit from lessons learned and future trends that are discussed in the information sessions. I also hope to get some networking in. There are a lot of great things happening at Net Data Centers, including the launch of our new Vega Compute Offering, that I want to share with potential customers and partners.”
Of course Ping! Zine will be covering the goings-on at HostingCon in Miami as well. You can learn more about the session, speakers, exhibitors and events at HostingCon 2014 by visiting the official website at: www.hostingcon.com.
