PlayStation 4 Preview: From Controller to Pricing

(Ping! Zine Web Tech Magazine) – Console developer Sony is highly expected to rollout the PlayStation 3’s successor at a 6 PM eastern event tomorrow. That, however, hasn’t stopped game enthusiasts from speculating on what tech specs the device could include.

CONTROLLER – We’ve already seen a possible prototype of what the device’s controller could look like. According to a report appearing via, a picture made available by Destructoid shows a new Sony-based controller featuring a touchpad along with what appears to be a light bar.

While viewing the controller may show off some major components – what can we actually expect from the console device itself?

HARDWARE – According to an April 2012 report from The Verge, IGN claimed to confirm a rumor that the PlayStation 4 would use an AMD A8-3850 APU processor while relying on graphics from a Radeon HD 7670 GPU. “Off-the-shelf components” were described as the source.

GAME TITLES – Not much information is known for this area – but surely some titles could be revealed tomorrow.

CLOUD GAMING – According to a report from, Sony is integrating its acquisition of cloud provider Gaikai into its plans for the next generation PlayStation. This also means backwards compatible streaming. Users could access games online.

SOCIAL – The PlayStation 4 could feature more social capabilities. According to a news story from the Wall Street Journal, users may be able to share achievements via social networks like Twitter and Facebook.

PRICING – Sony could set the price at around $465 dollars, CBS News noted, citing a report from The Times.
