Power Outage Shuts Down Bluehost and HostGator Servers

Power Outage Shuts Down Bluehost and HostGator Servers (Ping! Zine Web Tech Magazine) –  Wednesday morning, many business websites powered by Bluehost and HostGator were shut down for hours, resulting from the failure of a high voltage power line.

According to a report from Newswire, the outage occurred “between the back-up generators, and the server racks, necessitating a physical re-wiring.”

Bluehost reported the outage to customers via Twitter by stating, “Hey Everyone, our data center is having a few issues that may affect some customer sites. NetOps is looking into it and we’ll update soon!”

HostGator addressed the issue by posting on their support forum that the company had become aware of the issue at 11:37 am ET and were quickly responding to affected servers to restore their service.

By 2 pm, many servers were fixed and running again, but there were reports of outages lasting up to 11 hours.

This is not the first time customers of these hosting companies have experienced issues. In early August, their data centers in Provo, Utah, experienced outages that affected many website and account services.
