(Ping! Zine Web Tech Magazine) – President Obama is reportedly getting rid of his trusty BlackBerry smartphone and looking into testing smartphones from Samsung and LG.
According to the Wall Street Journal, the White House’s internal technology team and Communications Agency are in the “early stages” of testing devices from Samsung and LG, which is still “months away.”
“We can confirm that the White House Communications Agency, consistent with the rest of the Department of Defense, is piloting and using a variety of mobile devices,” stated a Defense Department spokesman.
There are no indications on why President Obama wants to switch devices, especially since BlackBerry has upheld its reputation for being of the most secure smartphone manufacturers.
“For more than a decade, BlackBerry has been securing the U.S. government’s mobile communications and only BlackBerry is designed to meet the high-security needs of U.S. and allied government agencies,” stated a BlackBerry spokeswoman.
LG and Samsung declined to comment on the matter, with LG was unaware of the alleged pilot testing.
