(Ping! Zine Web Tech Magazine) – Rumors and threats of real-life “purges” continue to circulate, as many have taken to the web claiming dates and cities where these crime sprees are to take place, causing panic among many.
Last week rumors of a purge spread around Louisville and Detroit, claiming that a night of lawlessness would take place Friday and Saturday night from 12 p.m. to 6 a.m., reports TheeEpochTimes.
“We’re going to take any threat that we receive seriously, particularly one that encourages and incites violence against our community,” said the Louisville Metro Police Department.
Thankfully the purge threats appeared to be a hoax created by one high school student who did it just for “fun.”
“It was originally supposed to be just a fun thing, I never thought it’d get as serious as it did,” said the student. “I was really shocked the first time I saw local media covering it.”
A spokesman for Louisville Mayor Greg Fischer stated that a lesson people need to learn is to “be careful about what they say on social media,” adding that the city “got through it.”
According to recent rumors, Cleveland will be having a purge on August 30th, Jacksonville on August 31st, and Bay Area, California, on August 25th and 30th.
Other cities affected by purge threats include The Woodlands, Pensacola, Cincinnati, Knoxville, Wisconsin, and Miami.
