(Ping! Zine) – Amazon Web Services could soon be set for some direct competition. According to a Thursday report from tech site GigaOM, top industry leaders Google and Microsoft will unveil their own cloud platforms directly suited for developers during the course of 2012.
The same report indicates that Microsoft is set to unveil its new platform early next month during its Windows Azure event in San Francisco. Google’s could come later sometime this year.
Amazon’s Elastic Compute service allows developer to scale their web resources, also allowing them to carry out server instances at a much faster pace.
While both Microsoft and Google have long heralded cloud initiatives, new offerings from the companies expand cloud infrastructure specifically for developers. Currently, Google offers users its App Engine, allowing for developers to launch applications. Meanwhile, Microsoft’s Windows Azure is set to be unveiled during next month’s conference on the seventh.
