The move provides Samsung with a company known for its popular cloud DVR box set, a device which lets users stream broadcast TV channels along with storing recordings via the cloud.
A report from Tech Crunch, meanwhile, noted that the buyout of Boxee came with a nearly $30 million price tag.
“Samsung has acquired key talent and assets from Boxee,” Samsung stated, according to the New York Times. The representative continued, “This will help us continue to improve the overall user experience across our connected devices.”
The current Boxee Cloud DVR device retails for $99.00 and requires an HD antenna.
