(Ping! Zine Web Tech Magazine) – Consumers will surely fork over a lot more – but the much anticipated Samsung Galaxy S4 has a manufacturing cost of $236 a piece, market firm IHS noted Tuesday.
Despite what initially appears to be a low price, that’s actually up from the production cost for the device’s predecessor. The Samsung Galaxy S3 cost 15% less to build.
“Although its hardware is not radically different from the Galaxy S III introduced in April of 2012, the Samsung Galaxy S4 includes some critical component updates that enhance its functionality as well as its BOM cost,” explained HIS senior analyst Vincent Leung in a press release.
Among things upping the price were upgrades pertaining to the device’s application processor, sensors and display.
The Samsung Galaxy S4 was rolled out in New York City just earlier this month, introducing new features such as a larger display, an 8-core Exynos processor and new sensors.
