(Ping! Zine Web Tech Magazine) – How does the Samsung Galaxy S4 stand up to its predecessor (the S3) and competitor (iPhone 5) in terms of breakability?
Testing from protection plan company SquareTrade sought to answer just that, recently giving the device a Dangerous 7 score (sounds scary, right?).
To receive the results, the company simultaneously dropped the three devices, slid them across a surface and even put them in water.
“While the S4 proved slightly more water resistant than its predecessor the S3, Samsung’s new Galaxy phone actually performed worse in most other categories. Major strikes against the S4 include high breakability during SquareTrade Drop Tests, a slippery back panel, and a wider screen that reduces grip-ability, especially compared to the ultra-slim iPhone 5,” stated the company via a press release.
Meanwhile, the iPhone 5 received a breakability score of 5 – with Square Trade complimenting the device for its “excellent grip-ability and low friction coefficient.”
The Galaxy S3 received a breakability score of 6.5 – receiving a slightly better grade than Samsung’s latest Galaxy smartphone.
It’s noteworthy, however, to emphasize that there’s no better way to avoid a broken phone than protecting it with a solid case. Watch the breakability testing from SquareTrade below:
