Saudi Arabia Wants Means to Monitor Skype

(Ping! Zine Web Tech Magazine) – Saudi Arabia is said to be mulling a ban of popular communications service Skype. According to a BBC report on Monday, the country wants a better way to monitor apps.

Also being threatened are other platforms including WhatsApp and Viber.

The move isn’t exactly out of the ordinary. Authorities in other countries including the U.S. have wanted easier wiretap access to communication apps. However, a ban would be seen as a bit more drastic.

Skype was purchased by Microsoft for the sum of $8.5 billion in May of 2011.
