(Ping! Zine Web Hosting Magazine) – New server processors have been released by Applied Micro Devices. The tech company unveiled the launch in a press release today.
Known as the 6200 and 4200 Series, AMD’s Opteron line seeks to improve server performance in the areas of cloud, virtualization, scalability and more. The new product works on a new architecture designed for the data center, which the company calls “Bulldozer.”
AMD is one of the world’s largest processor makers and is a main competitor of Intel.
Discussing the matter, AMD Commercial Business corporate VP & GM Paul Struhsaker stated, “Our industry is at a new juncture; virtualization has provided a new level of reliable consolidation and businesses are now looking to the cloud for even more agility and efficiency. We designed the new AMD Opteron processor for this precise moment.”
“The wait for the most anticipated new product and architecture for servers is over. Leading OEMs are now offering cloud, enterprise and HPC customers a full suite of solutions based on the industry’s most comprehensive server processor portfolio, the new AMD Opteron family of processors which deliver an inspired balance of performance, scalability and efficiency,” he continued.
Meanwhile, AMD says it anticipates companies such as Dell & HP to release new systems in the near future.
Just earlier this month, AMD announced a large financial restructuring. For more information on the matter, view a press release by AMD: http://www.amd.com/us/press-releases/Pages/new-amd-opteron-processor-2011nov14.aspx
