(Ping! Zine Web Tech Magazine) – The sound barrier wasn’t the only thing skydiver Felix Baumgartner broke when jumping more than 128 thousand feet on Sunday. The internet was abuzz with talk concerning the Austrian’s descent from above and no place was that more evident than the internet’s top video streaming network, YouTube.
According to a post on Google’s YouTube blog, more than 8 million viewers tuned in to catch the event live.
“We congratulate Felix Baumgartner and the entire Red Bull Stratos team for their successful mission, and for creating a livestream with the most concurrent views ever on YouTube,” said the company through the post.
The live event, meanwhile, lasted two hours.
Baumgartner’s daring stunt saw him ascending in a capsule and jumping over the U.S. state of New Mexico. The skydiver’s descent took nine minutes, according to the BBC.
