Social Networks Battle for Gaming Dominance

(Ping! Zine Web Hosting Magazine) – Two top social networks(Google+ and Facebook) launched new gaming updates around the same time. Could we be sensing some competition?

Just yesterday, Google announced the launch of its gaming platform concerning it’s still relatively new social network, Google+. A post on the official Google blog by company Senior VP of Engineering Vic Gundotra stated, “We want to make playing games online just as fun, and just as meaningful, as playing in real life.”

The move appears to be a relatively natural step in the realm of social networking. With the addition, Google+ features the likes of Angry Birds, Sudoku, Diamond Dash, and more.

Meanwhile, Facebook had its own take, also announcing updates to its already established popular gaming platform. Announcing the move, a post on Facebook’s blog stated, “For those who enjoy games on Facebook, we’re launching new features to make it easier to find new games and play with friends.”

The updated Facebook gaming system features an updated game ticker, adding a new stream for users to see their friends’ gaming activity. It also features a larger screen area for gaming and allows users to bookmark what they’re playing.

Competing for dominance in the realm of social networking isn’t surprising. Since Google+’s launched in late June, many analysts have wondered how the two social giants would compete against each other.
