Sonic Characters Undergo A Makeover For New Game and TV Series, Sonic Boom

Sonic Characters Undergo A Makeover For New Game and TV Series, Sonic Boom(Ping! Zine Web Tech Magazine) – Fans of Sega’s iconic game, Sonic, will be seeing their favorite characters with a new redesigned look, along with a new video game, merchandise, and a TV series.

Sonic and his friends Tails, Knuckles, and Amy have been given a makeover, each sporting a new look that is similar to their personalities.

“We really focused on their personalities and wanted to ingrain that into every feature of the game, from how they navigate to how they go about in the world, and also in combat,” said Bob Rafei, CEO and visual director at Big Red Button in an interview with CVG.

Sonic now has long legs, a brown scarf, and bandages that cover his appendages, while Tails now comes equipped with a utility belt and Amy possess a hammer.

The biggest change in the characters is Knuckles, who is the “muscle of the team”, sporting more muscles than his previous version.

“We went in many different directions to discover the boundary of what Sega was comfortable with, what we wanted to do for our projects. There were some really wild designs, and ultimately in the end we decided they’re not well suited for the franchise, because they were just too out there.”

“The biggest thing that we want to get across with these characters is that no decision and no change to them was done willy-nilly. We spent a lot of time agonizing over and thinking about every single detail. We didn’t want change for the sake of change,” added Sega of America producer Michael Frost.

Sonic Boom is set to be released later this year for Wii U and 3DS.
