Start Button Makes Return as Microsoft Unleashes Windows 8.1

Start Button Makes Return as Microsoft Unleashes Windows 8.1(Ping! Zine Web Tech Magazine) – Microsoft on Thursday announced the availability of Windows 8.1 – a major update to the company’s latest desktop OS that delivers new features including the return of the start button.

Windows 8.1 was developed in response to user feedback regarding Window 8 features shortly after its initial release just one year ago.

“Windows 8.1 evolves the Windows vision for highly personalized computing while showcasing Microsoft’s continued commitment to rapid and responsive development. It marks a wave of new, innovative devices coming for consumers and businesses — from the convenience and mobility of tablets and 2-in-1s to the productive experience expected from laptops, all-in-ones and specialized industry devices. Many of these new devices are touch-enabled and will deliver advancements in processing power, battery life and design, across a range of price points,” stated Microsoft via a press release.

Among 8.1’s new additions is a Bing Smart Search integrated for touchscreen support, easier navigation with the familiar return of the start button (as mentioned earlier), more cloud integration with SkyDrive, a redesigned Windows Store and more customization options.

Windows 8.1 can be downloaded and accessed as a free update through the Windows Store. Meanwhile, 8.1 is also set to be featured as a boxed version at retail locations starting tomorrow.
