Study Gauges Data Center Plans

(Ping! Zine Web Hosting Magazine) – North American data centers are set to be a big hit this year, at least if a recent study released by Digital Realty Trust on Monday serves as any indication. The data center company worked with Campos Research & Analysis to survey respondents, indicating that 92% of top data center innovators “definitely or probably” planned expansion within the year.

“This is our sixth annual study of the North American data center industry. These results are consistent with what we are seeing with our customers across our portfolio,” stated Digital Realty CEO Michael F. Foust when discussing the matter in a press release.

Among some of the most interesting findings were that 78% of respondents indicated that they intended to partner for the purpose of constructing data center sites. Only 4% of those surveyed indicated they had no plans for expansion within the next two years.

Meanwhile, certain factors effected companies’ decision, an issue company CEO Michael F. Foust also discussed. Foust said such factors were “the continued adoption of public, private and hybrid cloud computing solutions, pent up demand from enterprise customers that had deferred expansion plans in previous years due to economic uncertainty, an improved economic outlook, and the proliferation of data requiring appropriate computing and storage environments.”

Digital Realty Trust has been busy expanding itself. In the recent past, the company entered the Australian market, planning data centers in both Sydney and Australia. The company’s recent survey results come as Digital Realty also recently conducted similar research in European and Asian markets. To view the results of the release, go here (
