Telehouse to Open New Beijing Data Center

(Ping! Zine Web Tech Magazine) – Data Center and hosting services provider, Telehouse Group announced today that its parent company, $42 billion telecommunications giant, KDDI Corporation, will invest approximately $140.6 million (11 billion Japanese yen) to expand its data center business in the Chinese market. The new Telehouse data center will be opened in Beijing, proudly offering the Telehouse global standard of data center services in December 2012. Telehouse will also seek to expand its customer colocation space in Telehouse Hong Kong CCC.

KDDI, along with SINNET, a provider of data center and internet services based in Beijing, have worked together to establish the joint venture, Telehouse Beijing BDA Co, Ltd with both companies operating and maintaining the Telehouse Beijing site.

KDDI presently operates four data centers in three cities inside the Greater China Region, including Beijing, Shanghai and Hong Kong. The newest Beijing data center will become the fifth Telehouse colocation facility with total floor space of 67,000 m² (over 721,000 sq ft).

Telehouse’s newest purpose built data center will be a large scale, carrier-neutral facility boasting a floor area of approximately 25,000 m² (269,097 sq ft). That will be situated in the Beijing Technological Development Area (BDA), a highly sought after base for major companies.

In addition to the new data center, Telehouse Hong Kong CCC, which opened in 2011, will be expanded by 11,500 m² (123,785 sq ft), making it one of the largest data centers in Hong Kong.

Hiroshi Kobayashi, Managing Director of KDDI Europe and Telehouse Europe commented: “The Chinese market has become the focal point of the Asian economy thanks to its current rapid growth. We at Telehouse have recognised the opportunity that this presents for global business and ourselves. By expanding our global presence through our latest state-of-the-art data center facility, we can accommodate the increasing number of international businesses entering the market looking for a purpose-built data center to host and manage their mission-critical systems. Telehouse Beijing, like all Telehouse data centers, will provide the fundamental requirements of quality global standards that our customers expect, as well as offering high levels of security, power, cooling and technical support to ensure business continuity.”
