(Ping! Zine Web Tech Magazine) – Although EA and Maxis have already announced the Sims 4, that doesn’t mean The Sims 3 is ready to slip off quietly into the sunset. Instead, it’s headed for the sunset with a big splash.

An expansion pack for the popular title is set to arrive June 25th and is sure to hold over the most hardcore Sims fans until The Sims 4 finally hits sometime next year.

From houseboats to resorts, The Sims 3 Island Paradise is set to introduce some pretty awesome features in Isla Paradiso – where the expansion occurs. Below we highlight some of our favorite features as revealed by EA in a game trailer just last month:

Houseboats: There are different sizes and shapes for these floating residences. Build your own, assemble a crew and live your life on the high seas (it’s not necessarily a pirate life for the Sims, though). You can task your Sims to captain the boat, maintain the vessel’s upkeep (cooking, cleaning). Houseboats are also compact; small all-in-one bathrooms are available, in replace of stairs are ladders, and crew quarters can be designated below your houseboat’s deck.

Resorts: You can check your Sims into fancy (or not so fancy) resorts. The places offer things like art galleries, pool bars and gyms.

-Resort Management: Manage menu items (costs), upkeep and even the amount of chlorine in your swimming pools. Functionality includes things like staff assignments (front desk/bartender/what they wear), hot tub repairs and more.

-Dive Lots: Sims can explore underwater spots in Isla Paridiso via what are referred to as “dive lots” with scuba gear. You can find treasure or even be eaten by a shark (ouch!).

-Uncharted Islands: You can select blueprints to build your own customized resorts or purchase existing resorts via map mode. You can upgrade your resorts and receive more stars.

-Beaches: Beaches offer everything from relaxing, snorkeling, windsurfing, paddle boating to speed boating. Sims can improve their skills as they progress. A new playable career is having your Sim work as a lifeguard.

-The Kraken: One of the most interesting things (and our favorite) The Sims 3 Island Paradise trailer revealed was a Kraken that can swallow your houseboats. Sea drifting residents beware!
