(Ping! Zine Web Tech Magazine) – On Tuesday, gamers had the chance to go back in time as Epic Games and Microsoft released the anticipated prequel to the popular Gears of War series.
Gears of War: Judgement adds new things to the mix including additional weapons, characters, enemies and more.
The game goes for a market price of $59.99. Microsoft describes the game as follows via its Xbox Marketplace: ““Gears of War: Judgment” takes place 14 years before the original “Gears of War” and just after the seminal event of the “Gears” universe, Emergence Day. In this story you’ll fight to save the city of Halvo Bay from a terrifying new enemy in a campaign that gets back to basics and captures the true essence of “Gears” combat, and introduces a new style of gameplay that’s faster-paced and more action-packed than ever before.”
Critics, meanwhile, are already chiming with what they think about the new release. “Fans of the trilogy should find Gears of War: Judgment an exhilarating expansion and another worthwhile reason to rev up the chainsaws,” stated Brett Molina of USA Today. However, a separate review from Digital Trends wasn’t as kind.
“This $60 Gears is not at all equal to the $60 Gears that was released in 2011, or the one that preceded it in 2008. It falls short. Considerably. There are great ideas for sure, new bits that could strengthen the series in years to come, but even if Gears of War: Judgment is the necessary backwards step for forward progress, that doesn’t mean you have to like it,” stated Adam Rosenberg via IGN.
The first Gears of War was released all the way back in 2006 (Time sure does fly!).
