(Ping! Zine Web Tech Magazine) – Many social media pages and rumors have been spreading across the web claiming dates of “purges” following last month’s release of The Purge: Anarchy.
The most recent rumor comes out of Louisville, Kentucky, in which threats of a real-life purge circulated around the city, TheeEpochTimes reports.
Many tuned in to police scanner listening to see if the rumors would happen, resulting in the Twitter trending hashtag, #LouisvillePoliceScanner.
“We’re going to take any threat that we receive seriously, particularly one that encourages and incites violence against our community,” said the Louisville Metro Police Department.
Rumors of purges began to reach other cities last week, with posters claiming that Detroit would be receiving a purge on Friday and Saturday from 12 p.m. to 6 a.m.
Other cities rumored to receive a purge include Jacksonville, Kansas City, Cleveland, and San Francisco.
