(Ping! Zine Web Tech Magazine) –Twitter was notably offline for some time on Thursday. Eventually being able to access the site’s status page presented users with a short message addressing the downtime.
“Users may be experiencing issues accessing Twitter. Our engineers are currently working to resolve the issue,” commented the company. Meanwhile, a BBC report noted that the issue occurred shortly before the Olympic Games were set to begin in London. As a social platform, Twitter will likely experience increased tweets due to the popular world sporting event.
Twitter wasn’t the only online service facing problems on Thursday. Chat platform Google Talk also faced its own downtime for the majority of users. The company was eventually able to restore that service and apologized for any inconvenience.
The social site allowing users to send tweets has been noted for some instability in the past. Users often see a cartoon image of what’s dubbed the “fail whale” when the site appears overcapacity.
