(Ping! Zine Web Tech Magazine) – Social media giant, Twitter, is testing a new location based timeline for mobile app users called “Nearby.”
The feed allows users to see tweets from people in their general area, even if they don’t “follow” each other, reports The Wall Street Journal.
The update states, “Search got even easier: Access tweets from people near you, directly from search results.”
When the app is accessed, a map will appear on the screen where a blue dot “pulses” over the user’s location. The bottom half of the timeline shows recent nearby tweets with an icon that can be clicked to show the location of the user.
Users who do not wish to use this feature can turn off their location services on their phone’s settings.
This new feature could be a way for Twitter to gain competitive advantage in the social market by possibly expanding into local advertising markets, reports Digital Trends.
