Verizon’s ‘FiOS Quantum’: Super-Powering the Web?

(Ping! Zine Web Tech Magazine) – Last week, popular mobile provider Verizon unveiled its new Internet service named FiOS Quantum, an offering the company emphasized was so fast, it succeeds in downloading a two hour HD movie in as little as 2.2 minutes.

“The new FiOS Internet speed and bundle options provide incredible value, and represent the most significant mass scale, consumer broadband speed enhancement in the nation in the past decade,” commented Verizon consumer and mass market business unit president Bob Mudge concerning the offering.

So exactly what is Verizon offering through its new Internet plans? The services come available in a variety of packages ranging in download speeds of between 15 Mbps and 300 Mbps. Meanwhile, the company appears to be appealing to online gamers, movie downloaders and photo uploaders with the superfast service.

Signing up requires two year contracts and different plans range between $94.99 to $144.99 per month. Verizon has established the service via fiber optics. However, if you’re already considering the offering, it’s important to note that it’s not available just anywhere.

Aside from its internet services, the company has recently worked to revamp its mobile phone offerings. Shared Everything plans will become available on Thursday.
