(Ping! Zine Web Tech Magazine) – While many consumers are still scrambling to get their hands on Apple’s latest iPhone, a new revelation could prove useful for those considering carrier switches in the future.
On Monday, a report from the Associated Press indicated that an iPhone 5 made available through Verizon can support SIM cards for rival carrier AT&T.
The iPhone 5’s market availability arrived Friday.
Cross-compatibility has been possible in the past. However, it’s never been easier than with the latest release. Past iPhone devices offered by carriers required “complicated hacking procedures,” noted the AP report. It, meanwhile, remains unknown whether or not the cross-functionality was intended.
AT&T was the only carrier to initially offer the original iPhone when it was released in 2007. Other mobile providers including Verizon and Sprint have since started to carry the popular smartphone as well.
