(Ping! Zine Web Hosting Magazine) – Apple’s iPad just might have a new rival challenging its dominance of the tablet market. According to a recent report by the Wall Street Journal, Amazon is prepping its own tablet for release later this year in October.
According to the paper, details on the possible new tablet include that it will be Android-based and have a screen size of around nine inches.
Besides just being a competitor to the iPad and other tablet devices, a possible Amazon tablet device could provide the company with a new forum for its services, especially in the realm of digital content.
Perhaps with the possible new tablet Amazon can replicate similar success they’ve had with another device. The company’s Kindle device has been one of the bestsellers in the e-reader market.
One of Kindle’s top challengers has included the Nook, the e-reader made famous by bookstore Barnes and Noble.
Meanwhile, it’s worth noting that possible rival Apple is currently entangled in a legal battle with Amazon over the use of the term “App Store.” Apple was recently denied an injunction that attempted to stop Amazon from using the term. To many, including Amazon, the term has sounded generic. However, Apple doesn’t agree and the legal battle continues.
