(Ping! Zine Web Tech Magazine) – Online website services will soon gain more prominence in the sports arena thanks to a recently announced deal between website service provider Web.com and the PGA Tour.
Web.com, notable for services including web design, domain names, SSL and hosting will have its likeness included as the title for a major golfing event. The web host’s sponsorship renames the previously titled “Nationwide Tour” the newly named “Web.com Tour.”
The deal is in place for a ten year run and Web.com will also be involve in marketing for the PGA. Financial terms of the agreement weren’t divulged in a press release by the web host.
“The Web.com brand will gain exceptional visibility as a result of our sponsorship of the Web.com Tour. In addition, we believe that the professionalism and competition of PGA TOUR golf resonates strongly with small- and medium-sized business owners, making the national and international exposure we achieve with this sponsorship an unparalleled opportunity to reach more of our target market,” commented Web.com Chairman David L. Brown regarding the matter.
The tour itself has previously gone by other titles including the Nike Tour, the Hogan Tour and the Buy.com Tour, according to a report by the Associated Press. However, its most recent stint as the “Nationwide Tour” gave auto-insurance provider Nationwide higher name recognition, especially among avid golfing fans. The tour itself has routinely served as a qualifying event for golfers looking to succeed in the PGA.
Web hosts using the sports market for advertising is nothing new. Top domain registrar GoDaddy annually runs commercials during the largest U.S. sports event, the Super Bowl.
